Photogram Design: Bees (Distrbuted Peril Reflex)

I've always been a big fan of the surrealist/Dadaist artist Man Ray, in particular his description of photograms. The peice above was achieved by taking a repeated 3-D paper sculpture of bees and exposing each layer in several quick passages of sweeping light. I then scanned the resulting image into Photoshop, adding in layers of grain, then gradiated color matching with the intesity of light. The result is at once alien and familar, evoking a surreal lanscape and insects trapped in amber.
